CompactFlash Association Celebrates 30 Years of Innovation and Industry Leadership

Los Gatos, CA, October 21, 2025 — The CompactFlash Association (CFA) proudly celebrates its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of innovation, collaboration, and technological advancement in removable flash media standards that have helped shape the digital imaging and storage industries worldwide.

Founded in 1995 by leading technology companies including Canon, SanDisk, and others, the CFA has been instrumental in defining and promoting open standards for high-performance, reliable, and interoperable storage solutions. Over the years, CFA standards such as CompactFlash®, CFast®, XQD®, and CFexpress® have powered professional photography, cinematography, industrial, and computing applications across the globe.

“For 30 years, the CompactFlash Association has been a cornerstone of the imaging and storage industries,” said Hiro Ino, President of CFA. “Our member companies’ collaboration has driven performance, reliability, and innovation, and we remain committed to setting the standards for the future of high-speed removable storage.”

To commemorate this milestone, the CFA will host a 30th Anniversary Reception.  The event celebrates the association’s enduring mission: to advance open, high-performance storage technologies that empower industries and creators worldwide.

As the demand for faster, more efficient data storage continues to grow, CFA remains at the forefront of developing technologies that meet the evolving needs of professional photographers/videographers and industrial users — from high-resolution imaging to artificial intelligence and edge computing.

“The success of CFA over three decades is a testament to the dedication of its member companies and the power of open collaboration,” said Hiroshi Noda, Co-Chair of CFA, Canon Inc. and Hua Jiang, Co-Chair of CFA, Nikon Corporation. “We’re proud of our legacy and excited to continue innovating for the next generation of storage solutions.”
